Eligibility, Exam pattern and minimum qualifying marks for UGC NET exam

Central board of secondary education conducts exam on behalf of the UGC for selecting candidates for assistant professor and junior research fellowship for various Indian universities and colleges. The exam is held in 83 subjects across different centers in India.   The selected candidates for junior research fellowship are allowed to purse the research in their chosen subject. The candidates selected only for assistant professor are not given junior research fellowship.  

To be eligible for the exam, a candidate has to secure at least 55 % marks in the post graduation subject. The subject can be from science, humanities or computer science or commerce streams. The candidates belonging to backward classes, schedule tribes and schedule castes have to secure only 50 % marks in master level exam from Indian university.

Candidates who are appearing for the master‘s exam can also sit for the UGC NET exam. However, they have to get the require marks for final selection in the UGC NET exam.  

For junior research fellowship the upper age limit is 28 years .The relaxation of five years is given to the candidates belonging to reserved categories. Research experience candidates in any subject or field are also given relaxation. This relaxation correspondence to the years spent in research. Three years of age relaxation is also given to the candidates with LLB degree. But the total age relaxation will not be more than five years in any case .There is no upper age limit for assistant professor ship.

Test is conducted Study Material of UGC NET Computer Science in three papers and all three papers are in objective type questions. The test is help in three separate sessions. The paper 1 contains 60 questions and a candidate has to attempt only 50 questions.  The aim of the paper is to test the aptitude of candidates for teaching and research fields.  Only the first 50 questions are evaluated. Each correct answer will carry 2 marks.

In paper 11, 50 questions are selected from the subject chosen by the candidate and all the questions are compulsory. The third paper also carry question from the chosen subject of the candidate and carry 75 question with 2 marks each.  These two papers 11 and 111 cover the entire syllabus of the subject including electives without any options. The correct answers are marked on the optical mark reader; this sheet is given to the candidates along with questions papers at the exam centers.


General candidates UGC NET coaching for Management in Delhi  have to secure at least 40 % marks in the paper 1 and paper 11 and 50 % marks in the paper 111 to qualify for selection as assistant professor or for junior research fellowship .Reserved category candidates have to secure at least 35 % makers in paper 1 and 11 and 40 % in paper 111.
