Eligibility for UGC NET exam and exam pattern



On behalf of the UGC, the central board of secondary education holds Nation eligibility test to judge the eligibility of the Indian citizens for teaching profession and also select the candidates for junior research fellowship programs. The exam is conducted all over India in more than 80 subjects from science humanities, and technology field.

Candidates with at least 55% marks in master degree or equivalent exam from recognized universities can take part in the exam. The other backward classes belonging to non creamy layer, schedule tribe or schedule castes candidates must have at least 50 % marks. The persons with physical difficulties also need 50 % marks to sit in the exam.

Candidates who have appeared or will appear in the master’s degree exam but have not received the result can also take part in the exam. However, they have to show the result of the exam with required marks at the time joining the assistant professor programs or junior research fellowship.  If they have failed to secure the minimum required marks, then they shall be treated as disqualified. 


PhD degree holders, are given relaxation of 5 percent, that is they have to secure only 50 % marks to sit for the UGC NET exam. Candidates can appear in any subject to clear the exam but it is suggested that the subject should be their qualifying subject in masters’ exam.

Candidates belonging to the reserved categories are required to submit their category certificates along with application of the exam form.  Other candidates are not required to submit any certificate with the application form, but they must show the certificate or documents, when asked.

According to the latest exam pattern, Study Material of UGC NET Computer Science
the examination will be conducted in three phases. Each phase will have one paper. The paper will be of objective type question in two sessions. The paper 1 and paper 11 carry 100 marks each. The paper 1 will have 60 questions, of which 50 have to be attempted. The paper 11 will have 50 questions and all must be attempted. The time period to complete the exam is 75 minutes per paper.
             

The second session will have one paper, paper 111 of 75 questions, carrying 150 marks. All questions are compulsory in this paper. The time period for this paper is 2.5 hours.

The first papers 1 will be of general nature aimed to test the teaching aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking of the candidate. The paper 11 and paper 111 will have 50 and 75 questions respectively UGCNET coaching for Management in Delhi from the subject chosen by the candidate. The questions in these papers cover the entire syllabus of the subject and are compulsory. Exam Pattern of GATE and Syllabus for Computer Science

Graduate aptitude test in engineering (GATE), is an all Indian examination conducted by the Indian institute of science and all Indian institutes of technology to test the overall knowledge of a candidate in a particular subject of engineering or sciences. The candidates are selected for various post graduation programs (M TEC, PhD, ME), in India institutes of science or in Indian institute of technology (IITs). The selected candidates can also take jobs in leading public sector undertakings such Indian oil corporation , power grid of India , national thermal power corporation etc . 

A candidate can opt one of the 22 subjects for GATE test. Besides all engineering branches, the test can also be taken in life sciences, ecology and evolution, geology and geophysics, architecture and planning, food technology, and biotechnology. A candidate can select any subject for test, but it is recommended that he or she should stick to the subject of graduation degree for better preparation and result.

The test is held only in one paper of 3 hours duration. The test contains 65 questions of 100 marks. The questions are set on both multiple choice pattern and numerical answer type. The test is online computer based test where question come on the random manner on the computer screen. The candidates have to answer the question and use mouse and virtual keypad to answer the numerical question. After the end of the 3 hours period, the computer will automatically stop the test by closing the screen.


Out of the 65 question, 10 questions are designed to test the general aptitude of a candidate. Most of the questions come from the core subject, which is opted for the test by the candidate. The multiple types question is of 1 or 2 marks. They have four options, out of which a candidate has to tick the correct answer. Numerical questions are also of 1 or 2 marks, but they have no choice of answer and a candidate has to enter the answer by using keypad on the screen. UGC NET TEST, ELIGIBILITY AND SYLLABUS


University grants commission conducts national eligibility test through national education and testing bureau to take the eligible candidates for lectureships and junior research fellowship awards for teaching and research jobs. This test ensures that a minimum standard is maintained in teaching and research professions.

The test is held in social sciences, sciences, computer science, languages, environmental sciences, forensic sciences, electronic science and its applications. The council of scientific and industrial research conducts the test with UGC in other sciences like physical science, chemical science, ocean and planetary science, earth sciences and .life sciences. The tests are held twice a year in month of June and December. The candidates can pursue the research, the junior research fellowship, for 5 years, on the fulfillment of certain conditions. The fellowship for research is given to only meritorious candidates selected from candidates who have qualified the   UGC NET test. But for getting the research fellowship, the candidates have to mention preference for it in the application form.

To sit in the test, a candidate must have at least 55 % in master’s degree. The minimum marks for SC/ST/ physical and visually handicapped are 50% in post graduation in any subject. Candidates, who are in the final year of the master course in any subject, can also appear in the exam. But they will qualify only after passing the master’s course with 55 % minimum marks.

The candidates, whose subject in post graduation is not in the list of the subjects, approved for UGC NET can appear in the subject, which they had in graduation. A candidate can select any subject for the test, but it is recommended that they should prefer the subject, which they had in graduation or  post graduation.   
                                                                                
The candidate should not be more than   28 years of age in December and June month of the test. The five year relaxation is given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST or physical or visual handicapped category and woman applicants. Candidates who are doing research or have experience in research can submit the certificate from concern authorities to get relaxation equivalent to the years spent in research, but not more than five years. Three years of relaxation is given to candidates having LL M degree.

The test is held in three papers. First Paper contains 60 questions out of which a candidate has to answer at least 50 questions. Structure of GATE Exam and Analysis of Computer Science Paper



Graduate aptitude test in engineering is an online text held all over India to test the students in various engineering branches, technology, Geosciences and architecture. Candidates have to select the option in their application form for the junior fellowship.  The notifications of the test in June and December are announced in the month of March and September through employment news.  The result of the exam held in June is declared in the month of October and for December test the results come out in month of April, The results are published in employment news and also on web site of the UGC.


The test is conducted in three objective type papers of equal 100 marks. Paper 1 is of general nature, which is designed to know the basic teaching aptitude of the candidate. It contains questions to know the reasoning ability, general awareness and comprehensive divergent thinking of the candidates. The paper has 60 questions but a candidate has to do 50 questions of 2 marks each. If a candidates attempts more than 50 questions, the only the first 50 questions will be tested 
Paper-II also has 50 objective type questions, which are compulsory and are based on the subject selected by the candidate.

Paper-III has 75 objective type questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question has two marks and all of them are compulsory.

All questions in Paper-II and Paper-III are compulsory and they cover entire syllabus with all electives, without any options.

Candidates have to mark the answers on the optical mark reader, which is provided along the question booklet.
