Exam Pattern of the UGC NET

UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year to select candidates for teaching profession and also chose candidates for junior research fellowship.   A candidate has to be post graduate in the subject for taking part in the UGC NET exam. General candidate has to secure at least 55 % marks. Candidates belonging to backward classes, ST and SC groups only need 50 % marks.

Exam is conducted in three papers. Paper 1 is common to all candidates. This paper consists of 60 questions out of which candidates have to attempt only 50 questions. The question are objective type and are covered from history, geography, current affairs, political science, English, teaching aptitude etc. The total marks of this question papers is 100.  The questions are very easy and candidate has to attempt only 50 questions. There is no point in attempting the entire paper. Because only top fifty question are checked, even if they are wrong .The last 10 questions, even if they are correct are not counted in the fifty questions. That is why, the candidate has to keep in mind that only best fifty questions, which he or she can answer, have to be attempted.

Paper 2 is on the subject selected by the candidate. The total questions in this paper are 50. Each question is of 2 marks and total marks are 100. Paper 3 is also based on the subject selected by the candidate for the exam.  The total marks of this paper are 150, with 75 questions.  Paper 2 and paper 3 are of compulsory nature. A candidate has to attempt all the questions in these two papers.

The paper on computer science  Study Material of UGC NET Computer Science is generally considered very easy. The candidate who has clear understanding of the concepts of his or her graduation subject can answer the question very easily. Most of the questions in computer science are on basics of java, software, object oriented analyses and design, data structure, fundamentals, digital logic and microprocessors etc.

The third paper of only those candidates is evaluated who have cleared the first two papers.

In the management syllabus, the paper 2 will have 100 marks with 50 questions. The paper 3 will have two parts, A and B.The A part will have 10 short essay type question with 16 marks for each question. In part B there will be one question from each elective. The total marks in the paper 3 of the management will be 200.

The exam pattern can be bit confusing to candidates with no previous experience in attempting these types of question. The importance of coaching classes comes at this point. They solve previous years question and UGC NET coaching for Management in Delhi help a candidate to get confidence with lot of mock tests and practice.  They also provide access to downloading lot of mock test papers and study material from their sites.
